How we work

The Bologna SARCOMA STUDY GROUP is a multidisciplinary group for the treatment and cure of Abdominal Sarcomas. For Sarcomas affecting the locomotor system, patients who intend be treated in Bologna should contact the Rizzoli Institute. The group is composed of internists, oncologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiologists, specialists in nuclear medicine, pathologists and molecular biologists. The physicians and healthcare professionals who make up the group have worked together for years and are experts in managing patients affected by Soft Tissue Sarcoma.
It is a multidisciplinary team composed of physicians and healthcare professionals who work to treat patients affected by Soft Tissue Sarcoma, as experts of internal medicine, oncology, surgery, radiology, nuclear medicine, pathology and molecular biology.

The team meets regularly to discuss clinical cases. The decisions made during these meetings are discussed with the patients who are called for a visit at the Institute of “Hematology and Medical Oncology “L. e A. Seràgnoli.

The diagnostic, therapeutic and follow-up program carried out by the team is periodically updated in line with results based on scientific literature and national and international meetings.

In general, at the first visit the team offers to the patient the following program:

First visit: the patient has the first visit, booked according to the modality recommended in the section ‘how to contact us’ , where his/her medical history and all the medical records related to his/her pathology will be taken.

Team discussion: The clinical case will be discussed at the multidisciplinary meeting where the diagnostic and therapeutic program will be decided.

Second visit: A second visit with the patient is scheduled to communicate the outcome of the team’s meeting. At the Institute the patient will begin the most appropriate course of treatment with future visits programmed at our facilities.
